Abasi Concepts unveils the Larada 5 Bass

Abasi Concepts introduces the Larada 5 Bass, designed by Animals as Leaders guitarist Tosin Abasi, featuring a multi-scale fanned fret neck, Fishman Fluence pickups, and available in four unique finishes.

Abasi Concepts, the brainchild of Animals as Leaders guitarist Tosin Abasi, has released the Larada 5 Bass. This launch comes after years of prototyping and aims to bring Abasi’s vision of ergonomic musical instruments to a broader audience of musicians.

The Larada 5 Bass features a multi-scale fanned fret neck, with scale lengths ranging from 34 inches to 37 inches. This design optimises string tension, enhancing clarity and providing strong fundamentals, especially beneficial in drop tunings. The fanned fret system also contributes to the overall ergonomic design, ensuring better playability across the fretboard.

“This Larada USA Master Series bass features an okoume body, three-piece maple neck, and maple fingerboard,” Abasi writes. “Each piece of wood is hand-selected, with great attention paid to quality, weight, and overall resonance of the instrument.”

In addition to its structural features, the Larada 5 Bass is equipped with Fishman Fluence multi-voice pickups, providing a range of tonal options suitable for various musical styles. The electronics include a 2-band EQ, individual string bridges, and a Graph Tech nut, further enhancing the instrument’s versatility and performance.

The initial models of the Larada 5 Bass are available in four distinct finishes: Black, Chalk, Cayenne, and Latte. Each of these finishes is applied with a two-sheen gloss/matte technique, accented by a white binding line, giving the instrument a unique and sophisticated appearance. The bass also comes with a custom G&G hardshell case, designed to provide maximum protection for the instrument.

The Larada 5 Bass is priced at $3,999 and is now available for purchase through the Abasi Concepts website.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
