Ampeg unveils new venture VB-88 Bass Cabinet

Explore the latest addition to Ampeg's Venture Series, the VB-88 Bass Cabinet, designed for powerful performance in a compact design.

Ampeg has expanded its Venture Series with the introduction of the VB-88 Bass Cabinet, now the largest in the lineup. Launched last fall, the Venture Series has been complemented by this new addition, which boasts an 800-watt RMS capacity while maintaining a relatively light weight of 67 pounds.

The company describes the VB-88 as being crafted for bassists who desire the iconic performance and aesthetic appeal of the SVT-810 cabinet, yet seek a more compact and contemporary sounding alternative. “The Venture VB-88 is specifically designed for bassists who are looking for the performance and visual impact of the legendary SVT-810 cabinet, but in a more compact and modern-sounding cab,” Ampeg states. When paired with either a Venture V7 or V12 head, the VB-88 promises substantial air movement, capable of filling any venue with its sound.

Featuring a front-ported design, the VB-88 is equipped with eight custom-voiced 8-inch Lavoce neodymium woofers and includes a variable high-frequency driver for nuanced sound adjustments. The cabinet is encased in a carbon fiber-style Tolex covering for durability and sports Neutrik speakON inputs for reliable connectivity. Additionally, it incorporates a practical kick-back design, complete with dolly-style casters and a towel bar for ease of movement.

Scheduled for release this spring, the Ampeg Venture VB-88 Bass Cabinet is available for pre-order at a price of $1,799. Optional accessories, including a protective cover and a Portaflex-style grille, are offered separately for those looking to further customize their setup.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
