Bass Empire Magazine’s first issue now available

Bass Empire magazine's first issue is now on Magzter, featuring Divinity Roxx, Matthew Nelson, Matt Rice of The Roamers, and Paul DeLisle of Smash Mouth.

We are pleased to announce the release of the inaugural issue of Bass Empire magazine, now available in digital format on Magzter. This marks an expansion of our platform, which originally began as a website, into a full-fledged magazine.

The inaugural issue features a cover story on Divinity Roxx, an artist celebrated for her dynamic career, which includes touring with Victor Wooten and serving as Beyoncé’s bassist. Her recent work focuses on children’s music, with her new album, World Wide Playdate, blending 1990s music elements with modern sounds to create an engaging experience that emphasises friendship, family, and self-empowerment.

Matthew Nelson shared insights into his family’s storied legacy in music and entertainment. As part of the Nelson duo, Matthew has witnessed and contributed to the evolution of bass music over decades and his personal journey reflects the intertwining of music heritage and modern innovation.

We also spotlight Matt Rice from The Roamers, who discusses their upcoming self-titled debut album, set to release on 20 September 2024. Matt talks about how The Roamers blend rock’s raw energy with the storytelling essence of country music, making a notable impact on the Los Angeles music scene.

Paul DeLisle of Smash Mouth offers a fascinating look at the band’s journey, including the enduring popularity of their hit All Star, which became a cultural staple long before the era of viral hits.

Our new feature, Bass Tales, focuses on the stories of bass players from around the world. This month, we spotlight Rogier van Wegberg, a talented bassist from the Netherlands with a career spanning multiple music genres.

Explore the story behind the Ennea Pau bass, crafted by luthier Simon Padalka. Originating from a custom order, the Ennea Pau bass has evolved from its initial double-cut model into a refined instrument that showcases Padalka’s innovative approach to bass guitar design. Bass Empire also interviewed Ulrich Bass Design to discuss their new Saulus Duo 6 Pear, which is set to debut at the Guitar Summit in Mannheim, Germany.

In the Strum & Craft section of our magazine, we explore the art and science of building bass guitars, providing practical tips and advice for builders of all levels. This issue focuses on the critical role adhesives play in instrument construction. From traditional hide glue to modern options like PVA and epoxy, understanding how to choose and use the right adhesive can significantly impact the sound quality and durability of your instrument. We also dive into the world of effects pedals with a spotlight on the Boss OC-2 Octave pedal. Introduced by Roland in 1982, it quickly became a favourite among bassists for its distinctive sound and versatility.

This issue also features exclusive interviews with bands Replacire, Amongst Liars, and Fabulae Dramatis. Originally conducted for our website, these interviews are published here for the first time.

Our new reviews section debuts in this issue, highlighting albums from artists previously featured on our website. As we move forward, future issues will align album reviews with each release month.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
