Bass of the Day: Baum Guitars Nidhogg

Explore the 2025 Baum Guitars Nidhogg, featuring a mahogany body, roasted maple neck, Goldsound Powerjabs pickups, and Baum Precision Tuners.

Today’s Bass of the Day is the Baum Guitars Nidhogg, a model that showcases a simple yet sophisticated design ethos rooted in Danish minimalism.

The Nidhogg is built with a mahogany body and available in three finishes: Vintage White, Ocean Mist, and Pure Black. Its playability is enhanced by a satin-finish roasted maple neck shaped in Baum’s Modern C profile, which is complemented by a rosewood fretboard with a 12″ radius, ensuring a comfortable playing experience across all 20 medium jumbo nickel frets.

This model is equipped with a set of powerful Goldsound Powerjabs pickups. These J-style single-coil pickups use Alnico V magnets and are known for their solid output, delivering a loud and progressive low-end. The neck pickup registers an output of 8.5 K, while the bridge pickup pushes out 9.5 K, offering a full and raunchy voice that can handle a wide sonic palette.

Tuning is smooth and precise thanks to the new Baum Precision Tuners for bass. These high-ratio 20:1 gear tuners are not only accurate but lightweight, improving the overall balance of the instrument. A top-loaded bridge enhances string stability and resonance, ensuring that each note sustains naturally and distinctly.

Control over the instrument’s sound is managed through four knobs: a master volume, individual tone controls for each pickup, and a blend knob, allowing players to dial in the perfect tone for any setting.

The Nidhogg bass comes complete with a Baum Original Series Gigbag and is strung with D’Addario strings, sized 45-105, to maintain quality sound and durability right out of the box.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
