Created by May Custom Basses‘ luthier Shawn May, the SCM5 is built with a 32-inch scale length, extendable to 34 inches, and boasts 34 Evo Gold frets from JesCar Music, which are known for their resilience and smooth playability. It sports a visually striking Mun Ebony top from Secret Stash Hardwoods, set against a Swamp Ash body core with a Flame Maple accent, which together provide a unique look.
The neck is crafted from a combination of Flame Maple and White Ash, supporting an Ebony-bound Birdseye Maple fretboard. This fretboard features “ladder” block inlays, adding a distinctive artistic touch.
The SCM5 is equipped with Kent Armstrong DC pickups in Birdseye Maple covers, paired with an Aguilar OBP3 preamp for extensive tone control. It also features reliable hardware, including a Hipshot Products A-style bridge and Ultralite tuners, along with Jim Dunlop USA recessed strap locks and a scalloped brass nut for enhanced durability and security.
Accentuating its design are matching wood knobs and D’Addario XL nickel strings, rounding out its meticulous construction.
