BOSS TU-3 Chromatic Tuner

The BOSS TU-3 Chromatic Tuner offers bass players precise tuning with its 21-segment LED meter, Chromatic and Bass tuning modes, and Flat-Tuning mode for drop tunings.

The BOSS TU-3 Chromatic Tuner targets guitarists and bassists seeking precise and reliable tuning. As an evolution of the popular TU-2 model, the TU-3 is equipped with advanced features and improvements that make it suitable for both stage and studio use.

Housed in a robust BOSS stompbox body, the TU-3 comes with a 21-segment LED meter that includes a High-Brightness mode, ensuring visibility even in bright outdoor conditions. It supports both Chromatic and Guitar/Bass tuning modes and provides visual tuning confirmation with the Accu-Pitch Sign function. The tuner also features a Note Name Indicator that can accommodate seven-string guitars and six-string basses.

The TU-3 includes a Flat-Tuning mode, enabling guitarists to perform drop tunings up to six semitones below standard pitch. The tuner is accurate to within ± one cent, ensuring precise tuning, and automatically mutes when activated. It is capable of supplying power for up to seven BOSS compact effect pedals.

With a tuning range from C0 (16.35 Hz) to C8 (4,186 Hz) and a reference pitch adjustable from A4 = 436–445 Hz, the TU-3 provides a broad tuning spectrum. Its input impedance is 1 MΩ, and it has a nominal input level of -20 dBu. The tuner operates on a 9V battery or an AC adapter, both sold separately. In terms of size, it measures 73 mm (width) by 129 mm (depth) by 59 mm (height) and weighs 390 grams, including the battery.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
