The Space 5 bass guitar is the latest addition to the lineage of Cort’s innovative instruments, blending tradition with modern advancements. Originating in the 1980s, the Space series was at the forefront of the era’s headless fretted instrument trend. The Space 5 continues this tradition, incorporating contemporary features and design improvements while drawing inspiration from classic models.
Constructed with a maple body and adorned with a 6 mm thick solid poplar burl top, the Space 5 offers robust sustain and impressive vibrational characteristics, thanks to its 40mm thickness. The instrument features a 7-piece neck crafted from roasted maple, walnut, and purpleheart, designed not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its functionality. This combination provides a well-defined midrange that complements the bright, expansive qualities of the maple body.
The Space 5 is equipped with D’Addario® EXL170-5SL strings, which span a 47 mm zero fret, effectively replacing the traditional nut and facilitating easy adjustments to string gauges. The hardware features a specially designed headpiece, individual string bridges, Bartolini® MK-1 pickups, and an active 3-band EQ preamp, offering a wide array of tonal possibilities.
The slim neck profile and 15.75-inch radius roasted hard maple fretboard ensure comfortable playability. The meticulous setup of the Space 5 guarantees low action and consistent intonation across the fretboard.
The Space 5’s hardware has been specifically developed for a headless system, ensuring tuning stability and ease of use, while the zero fret takes over the traditional role of the nut in setting string height, allowing for versatile string gauge changes.
The 7-piece neck, made from roasted maple, walnut, and purpleheart, emphasizes the instrument’s bright, clear response, especially in low-end frequencies. This results in a sound that is articulate and stable, reflecting the instrument’s thoughtful construction. Adjustments to neck bow are made simple with the spoke nut hotrod truss rod, catering to different playing styles and techniques.
