The Darkglass Alpha·Omega 900 is a 900-watt bass amplifier designed to cater to bass players who demand power, tone shaping, and versatile distortion options. Developed by Darkglass, the Alpha·Omega 900 pairs the Alpha·Omega distortion preamplifier with contemporary elements to create a versatile amplifier.
The front panel features an input jack for connecting the instrument using a standard ¼” mono cable. A Passive/Active switch adjusts the input sensitivity for different bass signal strengths, allowing players to adjust how early distortion kicks in. The Alpha·Omega distortion engine can be activated via a push button, offering natural compression, harmonic enhancement, and a range of saturation from mild overdrive to aggressive distortion. This engine precedes the six-band EQ section, enabling additional tone shaping.
Additional tone controls include the Bite switch, which boosts high mids at 2.8kHz for added presence, and the Growl switch, which provides a bass boost for increased low-end saturation. The compression knob adjusts dynamic compression, with automatic gain adjustment. The drive knob controls the distortion intensity, ranging from soft overdrive to intense modern distortion. The Level knob manages the distortion engine’s output volume.
Other controls include a Blend knob to mix clean and distorted signals, and a Mod switch to toggle between two distinct distortion circuits: Alpha, known for its punch and tightness, and Omega, which offers a more brutal and raw sound.
The six-band EQ provides detailed control over the sound, with bass adjustable by ±12dB at 80Hz, mids adjustable across 250Hz, 500Hz, 1.5kHz, and 3kHz, and treble adjustable by ±12dB at 5kHz. A Master knob controls the overall amplifier volume, and a Mute button allows for quick muting.
Compact and lightweight, the Alpha·Omega 900 measures approximately 10.5 inches by 10 inches by 2.8 inches and weighs around 5.3 pounds, making it a practical yet powerful solution for bassists.
