The Microtubes B7K, part of Darkglass’s Solid Series, is an effects pedal crafted with bass players in mind. Designed to enhance the tonal presence of the instrument in a mix, it offers a blend of modern overdrive and transparent sound.
The pedal’s core features are designed for nuanced sound control. Its blend knob mixes the clean input signal with the overdriven one, while the level knob determines the overdriven signal’s volume. The drive knob controls the saturation of the overdriven signal.
Two switches on the Microtubes B7K offer additional tonal adjustments. The attack switch manipulates the treble content, with options to boost, cut, or leave the treble untouched, which is particularly useful for bassists using cabinets with tweeters or new strings. The grunt switch manages the low-frequency content, offering three levels of bass boost before the clipping stage.
Four primary equalization controls include low, low mids, hi mids, and treble. The low knob offers a ±12dB range at 100Hz, while the low mids switch allows frequency control at 500Hz or 1kHz, with ±12dB adjustment. The hi mids also provide ±12dB adjustment, with a switchable center frequency between 1.5kHz and 3kHz. Lastly, the treble knob delivers ±12dB at 5kHz.
In terms of connectivity, the pedal features several input and output options. A ¼-inch output jack sends the signal to an amplifier or another effects pedal. The direct output provides a balanced version of the ¼-inch signal, suitable for connecting to PA systems or mixing consoles. The parallel output allows for parallel signal processing, and a ground lift switch helps eliminate ground noise in the DI signal. The pedal requires a regulated 9V DC adapter with a center-negative plug for power, drawing 26mA of current. Its compact dimensions, measuring 94mm by 120mm and weighing 320g, make it suitable for any pedalboard setup.
