Darkglass Ultra is a plugin developed through the collaboration of Neural DSP and Darkglass Electronics. It is modelled on two of Darkglass’s most successful hardware products: the B7K Ultra and the Vintage Ultra.

The B7K Ultra plugin offers precise control over overdrive shaping, featuring controls for Master volume, Blend, Level, Drive, Attack Switch, and Grunt Switch. Additionally, it provides EQ options for Bass, Lo Mids, Hi Mids, and Treble, allowing users to sculpt their bass tone to their preference.

The Vintage Ultra plugin mirrors its hardware counterpart, providing similar controls for tone and saturation adjustment. Users can manipulate Blend, Level, Drive, Attack Switch, Grunt Switch, and EQ settings to achieve their desired sound.

The Cabsim module, included in the Darkglass Ultra Plugin 2.0, enhances user experience with an improved interface and flexible cabinet simulation model. Modeled after the DG210C cabinet, it utilises custom Eminence 10″ ceramic drivers and a unique crossover design to deliver balanced girth and definition. The module also features a virtual Tweeter knob for adding edge and attack, along with seven virtual microphones for precise sound shaping. Additionally, a sub-kick option is available to enhance low-end frequencies, providing a comprehensive solution for bass tone enhancement.

The Darkglass Ultra Plugin 2.0 introduces standalone functionality, simplifying installation and usage. Compatible with 64-bit VST/AU/AAX formats, it ensures seamless integration with major digital audio workstations. Furthermore, cross-platform compatibility, including Native Apple Silicon support, ensures accessibility across various setups.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
