Dingwall Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood NG Signature Bass

The NG Signature model, designed collaboratively by Dingwall Engineering and Darkglass Electronics, is tailored to deliver the desired punch and clarity for Periphery’s bassist Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood. It also finds favour among artists like Tony Levin of Liquid Tension Experiment and Patricia Ligia from Karen G. With left- and right-handed versions, 4-, 5-, and 6-string options, and finishes including Metallic Black, Ducati Pearl White, Fiesta Red, and Celestial Blue, it caters to a broad range of preferences.

This bass shares characteristics with the Combustion series, featuring an alder body that differs from the swamp ash typically used in the Combustion. The bolt-on neck and fingerboard are maple.

Its Dingwall FD3n pickups with neodymium magnets and slanted frets work in tandem with a Darkglass Tone Capsule preamp, which includes bass, low-mid, and high-mid controls. The Quad-Tone pickup selector, with four distinct positions, enables users to control the pickups for a range of sounds. An active/passive selector switch further extends the instrument’s tonal flexibility.

The hardware includes lightweight Hipshot Ultralite tuners and a staggered bridge design that ensures sustain and resonance. The multi-scale neck design provides a natural playing feel, and the Hipshot tuners feature shorter tuning pegs to enhance sustain and stability. Additional features include a Graph Tech Black Tusq nut and a carbon fibre-print pickguard.

Dingwall strings, crafted specifically for multi-scale instruments, provide consistent tension and are available in nickel or stainless steel. The basses are shipped with Dingwall Nickel Strings as standard.

The NG Signature model is a hybrid of Canadian and Chinese manufacturing. The body is alder, the neck is made of 5-piece maple with a bolt-on design, and the fingerboard features 24 banjo-sized frets with a 9.45-inch radius. Scale lengths vary depending on string configuration: 34-36.25 inches for 4-string, 34-37 inches for 5-string, and 33.25-37 inches for 6-string. The preamp is the Darkglass Tone Capsule, offering a 3-band active EQ (bass, lo-mid, hi-mid), with a master volume and active/passive toggle switch. The instrument comes in a Dingwall padded gigbag.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
