Divinity Roxx recently shared a video on Instagram unboxing her custom Fender Player Jazz Bass. In the August issue of Bass Empire digital magazine, Roxx discussed the unique aspects of this bass and how it fits into both her regular performances and her music aimed at younger audiences.
The bassist known for her work with Beyoncé and Victor Wooten explained that this custom bass was specifically designed to engage children during her performances and for use on the album cover. “I did reach out to Fender for a bass guitar to play for the kids’ music,” Roxx noted. “Kids like to see things that are flashy and fun, so I had them make me this silver, sparkly bass guitar. It’s the Player’s Bass, a Jazz Bass. It’s nice, and I have the neon DR Strings on that bass. All of it is new for me. It’s a new sound, and it’s new to get adjusted to, but it really works for the kids’ music.”
The standard Fender Player Jazz Bass features an alder body with a gloss polyester finish and the classic Jazz Bass shape. It includes a maple neck with a modern “C” shape, finished with satin urethane on the back and gloss on the headstock face. The bass has a 34″ scale length and a pau ferro fingerboard with a 9.5″ radius, 20 medium jumbo frets, and white dot inlays. It’s equipped with two Player Series Alnico 5 single-coil pickups, controlled by two volume knobs and a master tone knob. The hardware setup includes a 4-saddle standard bridge, open-gear tuning machines, and a 3-ply parchment pickguard.
Roxx’s new album, World Wide Playdate, aimed at children twelve and under, was released earlier this month. It features ten tracks blending 1990s influences with contemporary sounds, focusing on themes like friendship, family, and self-empowerment.
