In collaboration with Joy Division/New Order’s Peter Hook, Eastwood has unveiled the Hooky Viking Bass PRO, a four-string marvel whose launch follows the success of the Hooky Bass 6 PRO, introduced in early 2020, expanding Eastwood’s line with a model that pays homage to an iconic design by luthier Chris Eccleshall.
Priced at $1,499, the Eastwood Hooky Viking Bass PRO is the result of meticulous research and development, aimed at capturing the essence of Hooky’s original instrument. The team at Eastwood, with unparalleled access to the original bass, has managed to replicate its distinctive features, culminating in the creation of the first-ever commercially available version of this 4-string, full-scale length, semi-acoustic bass.
Available in striking Dark Cherry and classic Black finishes, the Hooky Viking Bass PRO is crafted with a keen eye for detail. The body is constructed from mahogany for the back and sides, paired with a maple top. The neck, made from maple and running through the body, is topped with an ebony fingerboard that houses 22 frets.
At the heart of this bass is a split coil pickup positioned near the bridge, offering a versatile range of tones. The inclusion of an active/passive switch adds a layer of tonal flexibility, allowing players to toggle between a 3-band EQ for sculpting their sound in active mode and simpler volume and tone controls in passive mode.
Despite the initial batch selling out quickly, Eastwood has opened pre-orders for the second batch, set to ship this fall.
For those intrigued by the sonic possibilities of the Hooky Viking Bass PRO, Desmond Doom’s demo offers a glimpse into its versatile capabilities, showcasing the bass in various musical contexts.
