Ernie Ball Music Man introduces new finishes for the 2024 DarkRay Bass Collection

Ernie Ball Music Man introduces the 2024 DarkRay 4 & 5 Bass models in new finishes Dark Rainbow and Gold Bar.

Ernie Ball Music Man revealed two striking new finishes for their 2024 collection of the DarkRay bass, in collaboration with Darkglass Electronics. The DarkRay 4 and 5 models will now be available in Dark Rainbow and Gold Bar, expanding the aesthetic choices for musicians looking for state-of-the-art bass guitars.

DarkRay 4 in Gold Bar

The DarkRay bass series continues to combine the iconic design elements of the Stingray Special with advanced audio technology from Darkglass Electronics. Central to its appeal is the custom-crafted 2 Band EQ preamp developed by Darkglass, which offers three tonal modes: Clean, Alpha, and Omega. These modes enable players to explore everything from clear, unaltered tones to aggressive distortion and fuzz, all controlled through an intuitive interface featuring an LED ring and a three-way lever switch.

DarkRay 5 in Dark Rainbow

Each bass features a neodymium humbucking pickup, a roasted maple neck, a contoured body for enhanced playability, 22 stainless steel frets, and the recognisable 3+1 (or 4+1) headstock configuration. The necks are crafted from roasted maple, which is known for its stability and resonance, and are topped with either an ebony or roasted maple fingerboard depending on the finish selected.

These new models from the DarkRay series are now available, with the 5-string model priced at $2,899.00 and the 4-string model available for $2,799.00.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
