Esperanza Spalding and Milton Nascimento collaborate for Tiny Desk Concert

Watch Esperanza Spalding perform with Milton Nascimento in a Tiny Desk concert recorded in his home.

Esperanza Spalding recently collaborated with Brazilian musician Milton Nascimento for a Tiny Desk (home) concert recorded in Nascimento’s living room in Rio de Janeiro. Nascimento, 81, who rarely travels due to health concerns, teamed up with Spalding to perform music from their new album, Milton + esperanza.

Despite announcing his retirement in 2022, Nascimento decided to work with Spalding on this project. Nascimento’s extensive career spans more than six decades, during which he has released over 40 albums. Spalding, speaking with WRTI’s Nate Chinen, expressed the depth of Nascimento’s influence: “It’s not a sound, it’s a lived thing that does travel on the frequencies. We don’t even have the words to describe what we’re actually picking up.”

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
