Fender and Blu DeTiger release Limited-Edition Player Plus Jazz Bass

Fender releases the limited-edition Player Plus x Blu DeTiger Jazz Bass, featuring custom pickups, active/passive switching, and a striking Sky Burst Sparkle finish. Available for $1,599.

Fender has partnered with viral bass sensation Blu DeTiger to release a limited-edition Player Plus Jazz Bass. Known for her rapid rise during the pandemic with bass covers that went viral on TikTok, DeTiger has since made a name for herself through her EP How Did We Get Here?, her debut album All I Ever Want Is Everything, and live performances with artists like Caroline Polachek, Dominic Fike, and Chromeo.

DeTiger, who has long been loyal to the J Bass, brings her signature sound and style to the instrument, collaborating closely with Fender to ensure both performance and aesthetics are top-notch. The bass features a striking Sky Burst Sparkle finish, complete with a matching headstock, chrome hardware, and a mirrored pickguard.

At its core, the Player Plus x Blu DeTiger Jazz Bass is built for versatility. The chambered ash body keeps the weight down without sacrificing tone, while the maple neck with a 1966 C-shape profile is designed for a comfortable playing experience. The rosewood fingerboard, bound for extra flair, has a 9.5” radius, 20 vintage tall frets, and a synthetic bone nut, all of which contribute to smooth, reliable playability.

But it’s the electronics that make this bass stand out. The custom Blu DeTiger Fireball humbucker in the bridge position is paired with Fender’s Player Plus noiseless pickups in the neck, giving players a broad range of tones to work with. The bass also features an 18V active preamp with a three-band EQ, allowing for detailed tonal sculpting. A mini-toggle switch enables players to shift between active and passive modes, ensuring the bass is adaptable in various playing environments. Additionally, a Master Volume control and Pan Pot allow easy blending between the pickups.

As DeTiger puts it, “This bass is a reflection of everything I love about playing. I wanted an instrument that could handle the diversity of sounds I create, from deep, funky grooves to melodic lines that cut through the mix.”

The bass is priced at $1,599 and is available now through Fender’s website.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
