Fender unveils Player II Series bass guitars

Fender releases Player II Series bass guitars, featuring Precision Bass, Jazz Bass, and Mustang Bass models. Upgrades include rosewood fretboards, rolled edges, and vintage colours.

Fender has announced the release of its updated Player II range. This series builds on the success of the original Player lineup, which was introduced in 2018 and has since become Fender’s best-selling range. The Player II series includes the Precision Bass, Jazz Bass, and Mustang Bass, each featuring significant updates.

One of the most notable changes is the return of rosewood fretboards, replacing the pau ferro boards used in previous models. Additionally, Fender has enhanced the fretboards with rolled edges for a smoother playing experience.

The Player II series also includes hardware upgrades, such as improved Mustang saddles and ClassicGear tuners, aimed at providing better performance and reliability. In terms of aesthetics, the range introduces new vintage-inspired colour options from the 1950s and 1960s, including Coral Red, Aquatone Blue, Hialeah Yellow, and Birch Green.

Justin Norvell of Fender commented, “The Player II Series is not just an upgrade, it’s a detailed re-imagining of our core silhouettes, highlighting our dedication to quality and the continuous refinement of our instruments. We listened to the feedback from musicians around the world and incorporated their insights to refine and innovate our instruments.”

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
