Grez Guitars has introduced a new model to their Mendocino series, the Bass VI. This instrument features a semi-hollow body and utilizes salvaged old-growth redwood for the top, aimed at providing a balance between traditional aesthetics and contemporary performance.
Barry Grzebik, the luthier at Grez Guitars, commented on the inspiration behind the new model: “There are so many important songs of the past that used a Bass VI. I wanted to make something that would allow me to be part of that tradition in the future.”
The instrument comes with a 30-inch scale and is relatively lightweight at 5.75 pounds. A notable feature is the Grez Multi-Tone tone pot, which includes a detent for flat response, with adjustments available for both low and high cut settings. This feature is designed to enhance the instrument’s flexibility.
The Mendocino Bass VI has a semi-hollow Honduran mahogany body with a solid old-growth redwood top. The neck is also made from Honduran mahogany, paired with an ebony fretboard that houses 23 jumbo frets. It is equipped with Gemini Dynasonic pickups and features a master volume control with a high/low cut combo tone pot. The bridge is made from Halon steel and the instrument is finished in matte nitro.
The Bass VI is now available for purchase, priced at $3,500.
