Ibanez SR5005 Prestige

The Ibanez SR5005 bass guitar has an Atlas-5 neck, custom Bartolini pickups, and advanced electronics for a precise playing experience.

The Ibanez SR5005 presents a blend of detailed craftsmanship and advanced electronics. At its core is the Atlas-5 neck, constructed from a five-piece combination of Wenge and Walnut, further strengthened with KTS™ TITANIUM rods.

Its body boasts a Wenge top and back, coupled with an African Mahogany centre, offering a solid build with tonal clarity. The Wenge fretboard includes Mother of Pearl and Abalone oval inlays. Its 24 medium frets are expertly treated with Prestige fret edge technology for a refined playing experience.

Sound is delivered via custom Bartolini® pickups, both in the neck and bridge positions, that passively amplify the instrument’s tones. The Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ further refines these tones, allowing for detailed adjustments. The bridge is the MR5S, which offers adjustable saddles to cater to individual string spacing preferences. Additional features include a Graph Tech® BLACK TUSQ XL® nut and gold hardware.

The neck has a scale of 864 mm (34 inches), and its width varies from 45 mm at the nut to 67 mm at the 24th fret. The neck thickness ranges from 19.5 mm at the 1st fret to 23 mm at the 12th fret. It comes equipped with D’Addario® EXL165 strings plus an additional .130 gauge, which is suitable for tuning from G to B. A hardshell case is included, along with Gotoh® machine heads and a recommended gig bag, the IBB724-BK.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
