Line 6 debuts Catalyst CX Series: Amps with Helix-inspired tones at accessible prices

The new Line 6 Catalyst CX Series offers diverse amp voicings and effects for musicians seeking quality and versatility.

Line 6 has unveiled its latest range of guitar amplifiers, the Catalyst CX series. This new lineup is inspired by the critically acclaimed Helix amp and effects processor and is designed to marry the classic performance of traditional guitar amps with the adaptability and functionality of contemporary models.

Rick Gagliano, Director of Product Management at Line 6, highlighted the advancements of the new series, stating, “Catalyst CX amplifiers expand upon our original Catalyst amps.” He further elaborated on the enhanced features: “They double the number of available Amp Voicings from six to 12, and you can also now load any of the 24 effects into either of the two dedicated effects slots.”

The Catalyst CX series includes three models: the 200-watt Catalyst CX 200 2×12, the 100-watt Catalyst CX 100 1×12, and the 60-watt Catalyst CX 60 1×12. Each model offers 12 distinct Amp Voicings, ranging from crystal-clear cleans to aggressive high-gain tones, paired with a bespoke Boost type. Additionally, the amps are equipped with 24 high-quality HX effects, divided into four categories, providing a broad palette for sonic exploration.

The amplifiers boast robust construction and feature a range of professional-grade functionalities including a Tap/Tuner button, an XLR line output, an effects loop, and a Power Amp input for use as a powered speaker. The inclusion of MIDI compatibility, a 2-channel USB recording interface, and adjustable power output options further enhance their versatility.

Line 6 has also released the Catalyst Edit app, compatible with both desktop and mobile devices, which allows for in-depth editing of the amps’ settings. The company suggests adding an LFS2 footswitch for added control during performances and an optional cover for protection.

The series is designed to cater to a wide range of musicians, from the powerful 200-watt Catalyst CX 200, suitable for large stage performances, to the 60-watt Catalyst CX 60, ideal for practice, recording, and small venue gigs.

The Catalyst CX amplifiers are now available for purchase, with the Catalyst CX 200 priced at $499.99 USD, the Catalyst CX 100 at $399.99 USD, and the Catalyst CX 60 at $299.99 USD.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
