Martino Garattoni releases Playthrough video for Ne Obliviscaris’ track “Equus”

Martino Garattoni, bassist for Ne Obliviscaris, performs "Equus" on a Strandberg Boden Bass Prog in a new playthrough video.

Martino Garattoni, the bassist of the Australian progressive death metal band Ne Obliviscaris, recently showcased his skills in a bass playthrough video for the track Equus, which is part of the album Exul, originally released in March 2023 by Season of Mist.

Garattoni, who has been part of Ne Obliviscaris since 2017, is well-regarded in the metal bass scene. Originating from the Northeastern Italian coast, he started his musical journey at 13 and has since evolved into a full-time musician, touring globally and dedicating his career to music.

The bass guitar featured in the video, the Boden Bass Prog, is tailored for advanced players seeking comfort and a broad range of sounds for various musical settings. Its design includes a lightweight, headless frame and a multi-scale neck with an EndurNeck profile that promotes playability and reduces player fatigue. The guitar’s build integrates Swamp Ash for the body with a solid ¼” Flame Maple top, and roasted Maple for the neck with Richlite for the fretboard. The proprietary hardware made of aircraft-grade aluminum significantly cuts down the instrument’s weight while enhancing its overall tone.

The Boden Bass Prog also features advanced electronics such as custom Nordstrand Big Rig humbucker pickups and a versatile Darkglass Tone Capsule 3-band EQ preamp.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
