Nubya Garcia announces new album ‘Odyssey’ featuring Esperanza Spalding

Nubya Garcia's new album 'Odyssey', featuring bass players Daniel Casimir and Esperanza Spalding, releases on September 20 via Concord Jazz. Pre-order now.

London-born saxophonist and composer Nubya Garcia has announced the release of her third album, Odyssey. Set to be released on September 20 via Concord Jazz, it follows her critically acclaimed and Mercury Prize-nominated album Source, which was released in 2020.

For the first time, Nubya Garcia has orchestrated strings and extensively studied orchestral sounds. This ambitious project features collaborations with notable artists such as Georgia Anne Muldrow, Esperanza Spalding, and Richie Seivwright. Co-producer Kwes returns to work alongside Garcia, with her band comprising Joe Armon-Jones on keyboards, Daniel Casimir on bass, and Sam Jones on drums.

Garcia describes Odyssey as a representation of “the notion of truly being on your own path, and trying to discard all the outside noise saying you should go this way or that way.”

The first single from the album, The Seer, is available to listen to now. Garcia explains that the song is about “wishing that you could get a peek at the future, or even just gathering some guidelines in your own future so that you could know that you’re on the right path.”

Odyssey is available for pre-save and pre-order now.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
