String Cheese Incident and Wood Brothers join forces on Bob Marley Classic in North Carolina

The String Cheese Incident and The Wood Brothers performed together for the first time at Beech Mountain Resort in North Carolina, delivering a memorable cover of Bob Marley’s "Stop That Train".

The String Cheese Incident and The Wood Brothers commenced Beech Mountain Resort’s Summer Concert Series on Saturday night in Beech Mountain, North Carolina. During The String Cheese Incident’s headlining set, the two bands collaborated for the first time, delivering a cover of Bob Marley’s Stop That Train.

The performance saw all three members of The Wood Brothers joining The String Cheese Incident on stage. The Wood Brothers — comprising guitarist Oliver Wood, bassist Chris Wood, and multi-instrumentalist Jano Rix — emerged for the fourth song of SCI’s extensive set.

Stop That Train, written by Peter Tosh, was originally released by Bob Marley & The Wailers on their 1973 album, Catch A Fire. The String Cheese Incident first performed their rendition of the song on July 1, 2001, at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. They played the song intermittently until April 2003, after which it was largely absent from their sets, save for a single performance in 2017. The cover was revived in 2022, with three additional performances last year.

In the Beech Mountain performance, Jano Rix shared keyboard duties with SCI’s Kyle Hollingsworth. Chris Wood and Keith Moseley provided dual bass parts, while Oliver Wood contributed harmony vocals and a freestyle segment after Michael Kang sang lead on both verses.

Following this collaboration, The String Cheese Incident will make their traditional headlining appearance at Electric Forest later this month, before starting the main leg of their summer tour in Salt Lake City on June 26. The Wood Brothers, meanwhile, will join forces with Little Feat in Cary, North Carolina on June 13, and in Baltimore on June 14, following a performance in Chattanooga, Tennessee tonight.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, I've worn many hats - from running a record label and a PR agency to contributing to esteemed publications like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer. I've also authored books on iconic subjects such as Kurt Cobain's guitars and The Beatles. My journey led me to the editor's chair of Guitarrista, a print magazine dedicated to the crafts of guitar playing and building. Despite this diverse background, my true passion has always leaned towards the bass guitar. I have a particular fondness for offset basses and play a Thunderbird.
