Valkenburg has announced a collaboration with David Pastorius, nephew of the late jazz virtuoso Jaco Pastorius, to launch the “Proto Bass.” This model marks the debut of their Innovator Series and is designed to integrate modern functionalities with a vintage-inspired aesthetic.
The Proto Bass is distinguished by an alder body finished in hunter drab green with a “knackered” distressed look. The instrument is fitted with a flamed maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard, complementing its retro style. It features an EMG humbucker and a P set with a three-way switch, offering a range of sound possibilities tailored to diverse musical genres.
David Pastorius shared his thoughts on the new instrument: “I have been interested in one for a while. There are definitely some cool sounds you can get with it as long as it’s used sparingly.” His selection includes Gotoh tuners and a Kahler locking bass tremolo bridge.
The Valkenburg David Pastorius Proto Bass is set to be released shortly and is currently available for pre-order.
